Netflix Premiere: Travelers

The year ending doesn’t mean that Netflix is letting up on fresh content. Actually it’s the opposite. Netflix continues to drop great shows when we need binge-worthy TV in cold weeks of winter.

Season One of the Travelers hits Netflix today as its latest sci-fi, time travel, human existence original. Centuries into the future, the humans that are surviving find a way to send consciousness back in time, to people living in the 21st century. Through this process, these “travelers” take on the lives of the 21st century people, and attempt to save humanity from the disastrous path that its on. (Netflix)

How to watch: watch online, on your mobile device, on your smart TV, or on your streaming device through the Netflix app. If you don’t have it, or aren’t using your parents’ / sister’s / neighbor’s login, you can sign up for a free trial then roll into a $9.99 per month subscription if you like it.

Stream Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors

Christmas Day Rematch: Stream the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors

The Cavs-Warriors has become the best rivalry in pro basketball. The teams have clashed in back-to-back NBA championship games. The Warriors took the first meeting in 2015, and the Cleveland Cavaliers took the 2016 championship 4-3 in a heated battle. As the rivalry takes center stage on Christmas day, at least put the game on in the background as you put together that 3,427 piece kitchen set for your niece.  (ABC 2:30/1:30c)

How to watch: The best way to watch the game live is through the WatchESPN app. First you’ll need to sign up for Sling TV (Orange) or Playstation Vue (all tiers). They’re both offering free trial subscriptions now. Once you’ve signed up for one of these services, you can use your login credentials to sign in to the Watch ESPN app which will allow you to stream the game.

You can also stream the game through Sling TV (Broadcast Extra). This gives you access to stream ABC live in select locations, which means most major cities. It also means you’ll need one of the base package options, Orange or Blue. Then you can add the Broadcast Extra add-on for $5 per month.

There’s always the digital antenna that works great if you’re fairly close to a major broadcast station and will let you watch the game free in HD.

Stream Man in the High Castle

Catch up Binge: The Man in the High Castle

Amazon blessed us with Season 2 of Man in the High Castle last weekend, but with all the shopping we had to do (and we mean start our shopping), we didn’t get to it. So if you’re like us and haven’t binged it one of the best shows from Amazon, and one of the best over the past two years period, then carve out some time to watch it this weekend.

If you’re new to the show, it’s a snapshot into an alternate history of what life in America would look like if after WWII if the Nazis had won the war. The show dives into this dystopian scenario, splitting the United States into three districts, one controlled by the Japanese, one controlled by the Nazis, and a “neutral” zone between the two. There’s a lot of darkness and oppression. But the show is really about the ray of hope that emerges through films that are uncovered and appear to show a different world. The show follows a woman who believes the films will unlock freedom and is determined to find their mysterious keeper of the films.

How to watch: watch through the Amazon Instant app on your mobile phone or through your TV streaming device.

Here’s the thing. It’s 2016, and this year produced so much great television. It’s getting harder and harder to stay on top of watching everything. And as we move to streaming everything, sometimes the cable shows on networks like FX, get missed. So we’ll forgive you if you haven’t seen Danny Glover‘s Atlanta yet. But do yourself a favor and binge it up on the first season of this award nominated show over the holidays. We’ll show you how to binge it and then watch it when it airs again in 2017. You’re welcome.

Atlanta is an honest and real take on the rap game in the ATL. It’s the story of two cousins, Earnest “Earn” Marks (Donald Glover) and Alfred Miles (Brian Tyree Henry), as they climb to stardom in a cutthroat industry. And it succeeds in a big way with a finely-crafted and funny twist

The story begins with Earnest (Glover) coming back to Atlanta to see the stock of his cousin Alfred (Henry) rising in the Atlanta rap world. Unlike predictable, plot-driven comedies, Atlanta does an artful job of diving into its characters while handling topics like race, art, class, and identity with unique, fresh humor.

Here’s a 1-minute trailer if you still aren’t sure.

The Bottom Line

Atlanta, the FX show that premiered in September, has flown under the radar with some of the season’s big hits like, This Is Us and Westworld. However, the Danny Glover comedy about two cousins coming up in the Atlanta rap scene is a versatile comedy that will leave the award shows buzzing. A must watch.

How to watch and binge

Season 2 has yet to have an official premiere date. But it has been renewed and will most likely come back on the air during fall of 2017. You will be able to stream it live on Sling TV (Blue) or Playstation Vue (all tiers).

The first season is available for binging and can be streamed through Amazon.
