StreamSavvy Guide: What to Watch December 29, 2016

StreamSavvy’s guide for the best TV, what to watch, and how to stream it December 29, 2016, including the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and the Alamo Bowl streaming live on ESPN.

Well….today may be the worst day of the year for television. There is almost nothing worth watching outside of college football. So this is a good night to plow through any of those shows on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon that you’ve been putting off. This is the night to end procrastination. Here are a few of the shows that you should stop ignoring and start streaming.

Stream Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Online

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

The Netflix original from the mind of the brilliant Tina Fey, this is one that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle. If you liked 30 Rock on NBC, then this is the show for you. Netflix released the first season in 2015 and the second one this year. With only two seasons, it’s doable in a few-day-binge sesh.

Kimmy Schmidt (the very awesome Ellie Kemper) is rescued after spending 15 years in a cult in the Midwest. She feels like its time to start really living her life and ventures to New York, where everyday life becomes a new experience that she takes in with wide-eyed enthusiasm. Her counterpart ends up being a gay, “trying to find his first big role” Broadway actor, who’s day job is being street performer in Times Square. The pair take on life together with a fresh perspective and humor that only Fey can bring. (Netflix)

Feature: the most addicting show was released two weeks ago.

Will you like it: if you are a fan of Tina Fey, 30 Rock, or SNL, this is a one you need to binge.

How to watch: you can watch online, on your mobile device, on your smart TV, or on your streaming device through the Netflix app. If you don’t have it, or aren’t using your parents’ / sister’s / neighbor’s login, you can sign up for a free trial then roll into a $9.99 per month subscription if you like it.

Peaky Blinders

Hands down, one of the best shows on TV. Rolling Stone calls it one of the most “binge worthy” shows.

A notorious and murderous street gang from Birmingham, England, is led by the ambitious-at-all-costs Tommy Shelby. A riveting show with just the right amount of plot, character, shootouts, gambling, sex, and bloodshed. If you haven’t seen it yet, start it tonight. (Netflix)

Will you like it: if you like The Crown or have been a Boardwalk Empire fan, you’ll dig Peaky Blinders.

Both teams made their respective conference title games. Although both teams came up short during those games, they have the talent and have been battle tested. This will be a good one tonight. (ESPN 9/8c)

StreamSavvy’s guide for the best tv, what to watch, and how to stream it December 21, 2016, including Undercover Boss and the newest FX hit show, Incorporated.

stream undercover boss

Season Premiere: Undercover Boss

We started out “Bossin’ it up”. And we wept when the COO of Waste Management went undercover, learned his lessons, and gave back to his employees in that premiere after the Super Bowl in 2010. Not really, we didn’t really weep. However, we did dig the show and made sure to DVR and watch the first episodes, back in the dark ages when people still had cable and DVRs. The first episodes of each season have always been the best, so we’re a bit excited to catch CBS’s 2-hour Season 8 tonight. (CBS 8/7c)

How to watch: In almost all markets around the U.S. you can stream the show live as it airs through the CBS All Access app. If you’re not familiar with CBS All Access, it’s the CBS streaming app that give you access to live and almost the entire on demand CBS library for $5.99 or $9.99 per month (depending on the tier you want).

stream incorporated

Getting Warmer: Incorporated

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s show is gaining serious momentum as it hits its 4th episode tonight. The dystopian world that frames the story is caused by global warming…hmmm. Is this just a little too real?

The year is 2074 and large corporations rule the world ravaged by global warming – sounds not-too-unlikely right now. As the show rolls into Episode 4, the plot gets a few wrinkles from unseen threats and genetically engineered babies. Ahhhh. The future. (SyFy 10/9c)

How to watch: You can stream the SyFy channel through Sling TV (Blue) or Playstation Vue (all tiers), and both of these options offer free one-week trials and can cancelled at any time.

If you missed the last few episodes, watch them for free online:

Episode 2, Downsizing

Episode 3, Human Resources

The Next Big Show: Incorporated

The first episode of Incorporated aired on November 30. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are the executive producers. It’s set in a fascinating future world of 2074 where large corporations rule – sounds not-too-unlikely right now. It’s catching a lot of great buzz. You can be still be one of the first to get in on the Incorporated train…or a futuristic flying drone. (SyFy 10/9c)

Third Time’s a Charm: Hairspray Live!

First it was a movie. Then it was a Broadway show based on the movie. Tonight, you get to see the special, based on a Broadway show, based on a movie. How can you pass that up? Plus, what Wednesday would be complete without some 80s? (NBC 8/7c)

Here’s more on the cast for tonight.

How to watch: You can stream NBC through Sling TV (Blue) in select markets (basically major cities). If you are in an area that doesn’t get live TV through Sling, your digital antenna should work well.

West Coast Showdown: Warriors vs. Clippers

Battle for Cali. Western Conference challenge. Two of the top three teams go head-to-head tonight on the hardcourt at the Staples Center in LA. This is the first of four meetings between Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors and Doc Rivers’ Los Angeles Clippers. If you’re an “East Coaster” and think it’s too late…suck it up. This will be a good one. (ESPN 10:30/9:30c)
